Blue Planet (role-playing game)

''Blue Planet'' is an environmentalist science fiction role-playing game and setting from Biohazard Games.
== History ==
The first edition (BPv1) was demonstrated and released at Origins in 1997 to critical acclaim, receiving a nomination for the ''Game of the Year'' Origins award.()
The rulebook, weighing in at just under 350 pages, is almost a worldbook, with about five-sixths of its length dedicated to the alien setting. In keeping with its environmentalist theme, the game was dedicated to Jacques Cousteau.
The game received criticism for its overly involved character generation system and extremely lethal combat system.〔http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/reviews/rev_76.html〕
A second edition of the game (BPv2) was published in 2000 by Fantasy Flight Games. This used a new role-playing game system, referred to as the ''Synergy Game System''. The rules and modules were released in several books.
There was also a ''GURPS Blue Planet'' conversion() of the original product released in 2002 by Steve Jackson Games.
The intellectual property of Blue Planet passed back from Fantasy Flight Games to Biohazard Games in 2004.
In 2008, RedBrick Limited announced they had licensed the Blue Planet property from Biohazard Games. They subsequently republished "Ancient Echoes", the cetacean sourcebook for Blue Planet, which was originally printed in very small numbers by Fantasy Flight Games. In 2012, RedBrick announced they were ceasing operations, with the newly formed FASA Games, Inc. taking over and publishing Blue Planet Revised Edition (BPR), an updated version of BPv2.
From 2014, (Capricious Games ) are the current publishers of the Blue Planet RPG. Biohazard Games and Capricious Games announced that BPv2 will form the core mechanics for new Blue Planet material, moving forwards.
